The 4D Experience is Here!

Now being in Korea affords you the chance to be the first in the world to see Avatar in not 2, not 3, but 4D! What exactly is 4D viewing? Although the ability to add a full dimension to space has not yet been developed, movie making evolution has added completely new dimensions to the viewing experience. Moving seats that vibrate, twist, turn and lurch along with the action, smells wafting, wind blowing and rain falling can be recreated in the theater, making for a completely new experience in cinema. And here in Korea CGV is now claiming to be the first place in the world to bring you Avatar in full 4D. Currently the only locations offering 4D are all in Seoul: Gangbyeon CGV, Sangam CGV, Yeongdeungpo CGV and Yongsan CGV.  Click on the respective link, then click on the appropriate date for showtimes. Easier said than done if you can’t read Korean, but look for the 2010 in the upper right of the box and click left or right to pick your date.

Anyone who has tried it, we would love to hear if it actually was a 4D experience, or there was some exaggeration going on in their claims. Feel free to contribute your comments below!

    Hello,
Actually this is the first time that I’ve heard anything of there being an Avatar 4-D experience. I wanted to watch the movie in 3-D because of all the big hype, but my friend ended up booking 2-D movie tickets by mistake. Although disappointed at first because I heard that this was a 3-D revolution, the 2-D version was not bad. Although some dialogue is a little corny, it was exciting enough to know i must see the 3-D movie. Now, I hear of this 4-D film. I am definitely going to watch it. About this time last year, I went to a 4-D movie at a CGV at World Cup stadium and it was awesome. Very impressive! You can smell and feel things that are happening on the big screen. The 4-D allowed me to smell flowers which were presented during the movie and feel wind in face when something was moving quickly on the screen. If Avatar 3-D has proved itself to be as great as it claimed, then I’m sure the 4-D will be that much more impressive!

Went to see at Yongsan and have to say it was awesome. It is essentially 3D plus moving seats, wind, water and smells. It was 18,000 a person and was definitely worth it. I can’t wait for Alice in Wonderland and only hope that we don’t have to wait for a later release date.

@ “Ali” there is a CGV theater in Yongsan. If you take a subway it is very easy to get there. line 1 Yongsan station exit(?) but it is connected to the door of the theater so I assume you could easily find it and the other way is taking line 4 and getting out at Sin-Yongsan Station (exit 4) and 5mins walk to get the theater. But as I have told there are no available seats in Yongsan by 8th of Feb because it is all already booked. I can’t wait !!!

I just booked my tickets for Avatar 4D at the World Cup Stadium CGV, for two weeks away, and can’t wait. Nearly every seat in the 4D theatres in Seoul are sold out which makes it difficult to get a decent time and seats (not front row seats or corner seats). I actually had to book a 12:45 (at night) showing on a Tuesday night just to get decent seats. :P I am taking a vacation day on Wednesday just to be able to see it.. It better be worth it! :)

I’m wondering why the theatres didn’t show the movie on 4D for weeks longer when all shows were sold out days in advance.

I saw it in 4D, it was pretty good, but keep in mind that the movie wasn’t specifically made to be seen in 4D, so it wasn’t as good as the amusement-park type rides that you see.
My only recommendation is to wear a sweater and bring a jacket, because when the wind blows, it’s very very cold! I also found that when the wind was blowing at the beginning of the movie it drowned out the dialogue a bit.

Avatar in 4D is still playing around Seoul. I suggest if you’re in Korea you see it. Feel wind from the helicopters, arrows and bullets, your seat simulates falling, galloping, and thuds from explosions, water is squirted when falling down the waterfall, and you can smell the tires of the machines and the burning of the forest. In sum it was freaking Awesome!!
