  1. Roboseyo says:

You spelled my name wrong: Roboseyo, not Robeseyo. But thanks for the mention: it’s an honor to be nominated.

  2. Admin says:

Thanks for pointing that out. The poll has been adjusted.

  3. LOL…

Shouldn’t Marmot’s be sweeping this? I get about 1/1000th the hits he does…

  4. Martin says:

Have a large readership on [redacted] – would have been nice if our site was included in your list.
Our Culture section is the most “blog” like, but our entire site is more a service site for how to survive in our little city and there’s not a foreigner here among the 1000s that hasn’t been there.

  5. Rahul Prabhakar says:

That’s some list. Wonder why I don’t see my blog there? Shameless plug, but what the heck! Steve, can you list, “When the muse strikes!” here? The URL is [redacted]

Most of my popular blog posts about Korea are listed below:
    1. South Korea Beckons: Global Awareness and Cultural Sensitivity Strategies for Western Technical Communicators
    2. South Korea – Rising Eastern Tiger
    3. My interview on KBS World Radio Program, “Seoul Report”
    4. Working in South Korea — How different is it from India?

  6. KI says:

    Don’t forget [redacted]

  7. Admin says:

Attempts to be added to the list by putting one’s blog name in the comments section will be removed. The only way to be added to the list is to receive 3 votes.

  8. Allison says:

The blogs listed cover too many different topics. How about breaking this down into a series of poll questions? Maybe, like asking which is the best food blog and which is best for current events?

  9. admin says:

We don’t want to overly favor one blog or another, but we do want this to be a 10 Magazine “Readers’ 10″, not a single blogger’s readers 10.

We have added a new rule that we should have added much sooner in hindsight. Any blog that entreats its followers with blog postings to vote is welcome, but they cannot do it more than 4 times. Currently this disqualifies no one. (Next year it will be 2.)

A 5th post entreating votes will disqualify any blogger. Our poll is not about any particular blog’s readers’ enthusiasm, but about what our readers – the average expat in Korea – enjoy reading.

  10. P. S. says:

Please administrator, do not include slanderous anti-Korean blogs on your list for the 10 Magazine vote. I am Korean, and dislike reading blogs that slanders and bad-mouths Koreans and our culture. One of them is the [redacted] written by some unknown shady person. His website is [redacted]. Please disqualify him from the list. I also want [redacted] (he can’t spell for beans) to also be disqualified. This guy constantly talks trash about Koreans on a daily basis, playing the race card, when in fact, blacks are more racist towards non-blacks than Koreans are towards blacks. Last but not least, disqualify [redacted] as well. It’s written by a woman, who posts nasty stuff about Korea because he/she was dissed while living there. Thank you!

  11. Admin says:

That’s a cute attempt to get some ranting anti-Korea blogs – websites and all – included in the comments. Sorry, but we don’t know many Koreans who know and use the expressions “spell for beans”, “play the race card” and “dissed”. Or who want to announce where to find anti-Korea rants.

Once again, the only way to get on the list is to get three votes in the “Other” section, and no website announcements will be allowed in the comments section.

  12. EdL says:

@admin: couldn’t P.S. be a Korean educated abroad, Kyopo or other ethnic Korean that has colloquial language abilities and is still offended by racist commentary?

Also, you going to list [redacted]?

  13. admin says:

Perhaps, but we doubt he would have chosen to list the site’s url at the same time has he did, although you don’t get the luxury of seeing that.

No, we’re not going to list [redacted] because it’s not a blog. They also haven’t gotten three votes, so it’s irrelevant. Nice attempt at getting some more exposure for [redacted], however.

  14. yo.

i voted 4 [redacted]. most expat blogs are full of over polished drivel about not finding cream in emart

that dude is straight up real. real talk

  15. Jonas says:

Err, looks like [redacted] posted about this poll six times.

  16. amanda says:

When does the poll on the top English websites close?

  17. andrea says:

Ruby down in Busan ♥’s you.

    [url redacted]

  18. John McCrarey says:

Although I have a blog and read your magazine from time-to-time, I’ve never been all that popular (this dates back to Junior High at least). So, I know I have no chance to even get an honorable mention in what amounts to a popularity contest. I just take comfort in the small, but faithful, following I have managed to acquire.

But having said that–once, just once in my pathetic life–were I too know the joy of acceptance! I’m sure it would be a soul-altering event. I’m too ashamed to ask my blog readers to vote for me (I expect many come to my site to mock or take satisfication in the fact that no matter how pathetic their life might be, at least there is comfort in the knowledge that they are not me).

Ah well, I did put up a link to the contest on Facebook. And perhaps 3 souls will consider me worthy of a write-in vote. And if not, well, I can live with disappointment. Lord knows, I have had plenty of practice.

    John
PS. Hmm, this comment is very much like my typical blog post. Which I guess explains a lot.

  19. LOL..

Now I want to rename my blog [redacted] to take advantage of all the free publicity I’d be getting here..

  20. Admin says:

@Amanda – The poll closes March 15th at 11:59 pm. It is also NOT a poll of English websites – it’s a poll of blogs.

  21. Commodore Billards and Bowling Lanes says:

It doesn’t seem like you have your act together, 10magazine. You keep changing the rules as though life were but a game. If I was doing a poll about the worst magazines that do polls about the best English blogs in Korea, you would win by a landslide.

  22. Admin says:

Utterly ridiculous and untrue. The rules have not been changed at all, only added to, and no blog was disqualified in the process. We simply wanted to level the playing field for blogs that don’t feel they should sell themselves all day every day by posting “VOTE FOR ME!!!”. We limited them to FOUR postings begging for votes. Most blogs posted it once if at all, mainly to let their readers know that the poll was happening, rather than in an effort to beg for votes.

No quality blog would spend all it’s time worrying about our little poll, so if you do, you’ll be disqualified. It’s that simple.

  23. Jonas says:

It’s kinda hard to differentiate between letting people know about a poll and begging for votes. I mentioned [redacted] before, and how it has six different posts about this poll. Sure he’s not saying “pretty please vote for me,” but it’s hard not to view his posts on the subject as entreaties to vote.

Seems like this has become less of a viewer’s poll than it is a spammer’s poll, and I’m not entirely sure how many of the voters are actually readers of the magazine rather than people who have been herded in this direction. Sure, it’s not your fault it’s become this way, but this poll has lost its focus and probably its legitimacy to boot.

  24. Admin says:

No, it’s not hard to differentiate.

One says, “Go to this poll and vote for me.” Which is okay by the way. Once or twice. Three and four times are excessive, but the blog you mentioned was at four when we added the rule that you can’t post five (you seem to be off in your counting a bit as we just checked again and there are only four, not six). He was also swearing his head off when he said, “You $%&$% get out there and $%^%$ vote for me.” It would be unfair to change the rules and exclude him/her “ex post facto”, hence we made the rule five. Next year the limit will be two. We sent a warning to the blog before adding the rule, so if his/her blog is disqualified at this point it is his/her fault, not ours.

The other, by the way, tells people “10 Magazine is having a poll. Go and vote for your favorite blog.” This is still, of course, limited to the same 4 posts, but the difference in both attitude and results is obvious.

    “Go vote!” is wonderful.

“Go vote for me!” is cool.

“Go vote for me!” four times is excessive, but at least we stopped it before it became five. Next year when we do this poll again the limit will be 2.

Spammers poll? Who is spamming? You need to define your terms. Is someone sending unsolicited emails requesting votes?

NEW RULE: You will be disqualified if we find an unsolicited email dated after the time of this reply. No unsolicited emails will be allowed after this comment reply!

This poll has been shared on Facebook well over 300 times in less than a week. This poll only gets more legitimacy as more people participate in it, and from the direction we’re seeing it going in, by the deadline there will be over 3,000 votes from all over Korea. That sounds like the best poll on the subject we’ve ever seen – and we’re looking forward to doing an even better job next year.

  25. [Redacted] says:

    [Redacted] here.

I am more than willing to comply with your request.

This is the most fun I had since the fat lady bent over on the bus.

    God bless you.

  26. korea says:

3 votes gets you on the list right? I’ve voted for a particular blog at least 3 times and I also voted for myself at least 3 times (on different computers) and both blogs never appeared on the list….

These blogs got 3 votes (from me) but never appeared on the list….why?

  27. Admin says:

    1. If you voted more than once, you’re a cheater and we wish you would not participate.

    2. You may not have voted for a blog. We are searching for the best blog. There have been a couple of websites, not in blog format or run like a blog. As a general rule, if your newest article doesn’t pop up primarily first, and you focus on discussion groups rather than comments, and you don’t have a general theme running through your stories but are instead all over the map with information you’re not a blog, your a website.

    3. There have been over 250 ‘other’ votes at this point. It is hard to keep track in detail of who got three votes, but we’re doing the best we can, but if the votes were separated by a large distance, we may not have noticed.

    4. You may have done it last night. We don’t work 24 hours a day here at 10 – we gotta sleep bro!

  28. Aw, c’mon! Where is the love? My tongue in cheek comment above was marginally funny. And even if it wasn’t, FOUR “not cool” ratings?!

It stings, I tell ya. Really stings.

It’s ok, I’ve been called “not cool” by the likes of people much cooler than your readers. Trust me on that.

Rock on, y’all. I was a long time comin’ to this rag, and I’m gonna be a [redacted].

  29. kimchicrew says:

I am wondering why [redacted] is not in here ^^

  30. John McCrarey says:

LOL! Damn, you guys are good. I thought I might sneak one in on you, but it was not to be. Good luck with this the rest of the way. Anything that promotes the K-blogosphere is a good thing. And oh yeah, your magazine of course.

    Cheers!

  31. Momma says:

I found my way here via a link posted elsewhere and then I voted for that person. I am so sorry that I did. Just reading the comments here makes me wish I hadn’t voted simply for the fact that it seems so disorganized. ALL rules should have been thought out before starting. When you ADD to the rules you are in making a change. Whether you believe it or not. Think back to when you were a kid out playing tag or some other game and your friend would all of a sudden decide to ADD in a new rule. I bet you got upset and told them that it wasn’t fair to change the rules in the middle of the game.

I won’t be voting any more and I won’t be bothering with 10 Magazine either.

  32. Admin says:

This is unbelievable. You know what we had a vote on last month? Your favorite Korean ramyeon (noodles)! Nobody seemed to care then. It’s for fun!

This is not Gallup here – it’s a poll for fun for our readers! All of the sudden some psychos got involved and seem to think they should dictate how we run a poll of our readers for fun. Everyone knows it’s not scientific! Change computers and you can vote again! This is not purple dye on your fingers stuff. It’s for fun!!!

    1. The guy who we originally changed the rule because he was promoting himself too much is fine with it! He has stopped and is doing very well in the poll. Others caught on and no one has been disqualified because of the rule addition. So what your problem is, I don’t know.

    2. Who asked you? You’re obviously not a reader anyway, you just showed up out of nowhere (supposedly) so who cares? We’d rather you didn’t vote anyway. Do us a favor, Momma, and tell us who you voted for. We’ll deduct the vote at the end since you’re so unhappy with it.

    3. The proposal that you ended up here randomly is a flat out lie, and we know it. No sane person would care that much about this poll! Chances are your’re either a) a blogger who is unhappy about their status in the poll, or b) a website (not a blog) that is angry we’re not giving them free publicity by adding their name, or most likely c) a competing English magazine in Korea trying to sabotage what has become a very successful poll.

Whoever you are, leave us alone! Go play tag with someone else!

This was supposed to be fun, but a lot of sour grapes are making it a pain in the ar$$. No more negative comments will be posted – or even read. If you don’t like the poll with almost 2,000 votes already, and you think you can do better – go for it! Move along now… nothing to see here.

And to our 10 Magazine readers and new fans who have found us thanks to this fun poll, thank you all so much for voting in our poll and having a good time with us. We are really enjoying this and hope to do it again next year.

    Korea Awaits! – if you’ve got 10.

    Thanks,
    10

  33. Lee says:

I reckon you should try doing another blog poll without limiting it to one vote per computer. I’m sure the number of votes would go absolutely bonkers. Place some Adsense next to the vote button and you’ll probably snare the odd wayward click…

  34. hey 10, great poll, and great fun. say, i was wondering if false duplicates could keep someone’s vote tally from being accurate. for example, say my blog’s address is “www.google.com” [a safe site to use as an example in this discussion]. if someone voted for me by using the address “www.google.com ” and someone else voted for me using the address “http://www.google.com” (adding the “http://” part), would the two votes be cast as if they were for two separate blogs? or would they automatically be counted together? does that make sense? sorry i couldn’t explain it better. thanks!!!!!!!

  35. Jeonjuite says:

Congratulations 10 magazine – you’ve inadvertently created one of the funniest out-of-control freak of nature cyber-monstrosities I’ve seen all week! More ranting from both you and the general populace please, it’s funny! I might even start reading your magazine again now, even though you don’t seem to realise there’s life outside of Seoul and Busan… By the way, what IS Korea’s favourite ramyeon?

  36. Admin says:

We have an entire section of the magazine dedicated to the events happening all over Jeolla Province, so we hope you’ll pay more attention to our Calendar in the future.

The Reader’s 10 for March will be uploaded in a few days or so. When it is, we’ll certainly upload the link for you.

  37. kohoutek says:

If it’s an important law for foreigners, or even if it possibly one day will be, it’s discussed on [redacted], which is why it gets my nomination. Crucial. Thanks.

  38. Hi,

I and at least 4 other people have voted for [redacted]and it hasn’t gone onto the list by name, yet. Why for? Am I misunderstanding the rules? I thought that if any one blog got more than 3 specific mentions before March 8th it would go on the list…

    am I wrong?

  39. Robert says:

i think some people took this poll way too serious! I subscribe to the magazine and love the 10s but when I read all the stuff on her I thought the bloggers were vying for a big check or something! I love to read the blogs but come now….

  40. Grantme1 says:

Sad that [redacted] is in the lead. I just went to that dude’s blog and it is so negative and depressing. Guess that tells a lot about foreigners in Seoul, eh?

WHAT? The guy with the negative and depressing blog is in second. The blog in the lead is is not writen by a “Dude”.

  42. Jonas says:

Wow. 1 out of 4 people think sixinseoul is the best korean weblog. Really? Seems like nearly 50% of all readers are into only two blogs.

Yeah, I kinda don’t believe this. Pardon me for thinking the votes for this aren’t legit.

  43. Rob Vik says:

Wow… you are not much of an expert in math. 42% isn’t nearly 50% unless you are a politician who lost the election with 42% of the vote and are spinning how you barely lost. The top 3 blogs in the running are just over 50%. After reviewing a hand full of the other blogs from the track backs and the ones in the lead there is absolutely a real difference in the frequency of posting, quality of posting, and information that makes these blogs stand out to me that is quite obvious. It seems you must have a competing blog or have a competing product with 10 Magazine and are sore about the success that someone is enjoying with this reader poll.

  44. Brian Dear says:

Wow. You’d think that the winner of this poll would get a new car or something or maybe an iPad.. lol. Seriously though, it seems like those who are passionate about blogs are of a similar cloth as those who would argue and complain about everything. People: RELAX! This poll isn’t for the Pulitzer!

  45. Hi guys. I just got to Seoul a few weeks ago and I have been blogging for a little while now. I really appreciate having this list of fun blogs to read. They make my night a lot better when I come home and have some informative, and more importantly, entertaining blogs. If you guys want to check mine out it would be cool. [redacted] I really appreciate the support and again, thanks for the list and the great magazine.

  46. A funny rabbit says:

I think the results are not really representative of the actual readership that these blogs have. I’ve never even heard of the winning blog and I’ve lived here for some time now. Anyhow, I suppose it is exposure for some.
