A Moment of Calm in Cambodia
Words by Hannah Stuart-Leach. Only thirty years after the end of a repressive Communist regime, Cambodia entices visitors with temples, beaches, and just maybe the chance for a moment of tranquility. Crab! Crab! You want crab?” yells the determined woman as she approaches. She is beaming as she swings her stuffed bag in our direction. [...]
Catching the Fijian Fever
January Words by Drew Clement, Shots by Drew Clement and Andrea Mackay Planning an island vacation without considering Fiji is like visiting France and not getting a snapshot of the Eiffel Tower. Miles of sandy, white beaches, succulent cuisine, a dizzying array of activities, and the laid-back island way of life are just some of the [...]
[John's Travel Diary] Jungle Trekking and Elephant Conservation in Northern Thailand
After 4 weeks of island hopping and beach lounging, I was ready for some inland adventures and soon landed in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The city is about 700km north of Bangkok and, though still touristy, its crowds and noise are dwarfed by its big brother to the South.
[John's Travel Diary] Jakarta and Kuta: Indonesian Cities in Motion and How to Escape Them
A weary traveler in need of a good night’s rest is hard pressed to find solace in Indonesia’s capital city. Jakarta is a busy metropolis that never seems to rest, and one would have trouble distinguishing night from day if natural indications ceased to exist.
The Philippines: Earthly Paradise

November seems like a good time to have taken a Korean hiatus to the Philippines.
[John's Travel Diary] Finding a Bargain in Kuala Lumpur, the Poor Man’s Dongdaemun
When given the chance, Kuala Lumpur vendors and street merchants can be a wealth of knowledge for travelers seeing a new city.
The Slow Boat to China
China. Five letters containing nearly five millennia of history. It is consistently making headlines, whether for developing the next architectural phenomenon, such as the Three Gorges Dam and the Sky Train to Tibet, or its involvement in recent manufacturing scandals. China doesn’t do things half way, as exemplified by its opening ceremony for the 2008 Olympics.
Osaka Like a Native
When I lived in Seoul, I often skipped over to Osaka for a change. Being an hour and a half flight from Seoul, Japan’s second city is the perfect weekend get away! My journeys to Osaka often included mainstream Japanese pubs and foreigner bars. I still have fond memories of returning to Seoul, reenergized and feeling like I had experienced a true slice of Japanese culture.
